  • An Eye for Fit

This comprehensive class is designed to be both a primer for beginners and a valuable refresher for experienced sewists on the principles of proper garment fitting. We will delve into the essential aspects of achieving a well-fitted garment, examining the key hallmarks that define an ideal fit. You'll learn about the correct placement of seams and how they should lay or hang on the body. We will explore the significance of tight or loose wrinkles and what they reveal about fit issues.

Additionally, you'll discover why relying solely on bust, waist, and hip measurements is insufficient for making accurate pattern alterations. Understand why simply adding or subtracting width at the side seams rarely addresses the underlying fitting problems.

  • Two Easy: How to Measure Yourself for the Perfect Fit

In this class, we'll teach you how to take accurate, detailed measurements for a perfect fit using the Two Easy measuring tapes: the Zero Center Tape and the Inseam Tape. We'll also cover essential measurements that are often overlooked in standard measurement charts but are crucial for achieving a tailored fit. These include the Shoulder Tip-to-Tip and Shoulder Slope measurements, as well as how to assess figure asymmetry.

Additionally, we'll discuss how to capture the crotch curve shape with a flex curve ruler to ensure a truly custom fit. By the end of the session, you'll be confident in taking the measurements that make all the difference in creating garments that fit your unique shape perfectly.

  • Fitting Curvy Figures: Pattern Alterations for Fuller and Smaller Curves

This class focuses on adjusting commercial patterns to better fit figures with fuller or smaller curves than those for which the pattern was originally designed. We will explore specific alterations for bust size, fuller or flatter backsides, and more prominent or less pronounced abdomens. The session begins with identifying different body variations, including the distinction between "full" and "prominent" curves. Understanding these differences will help you pinpoint exactly where adjustments are needed.

Through demonstrations of the Seam Method of Pattern Alteration, we'll learn how to make changes in the areas that require a better fit, without affecting other parts of the pattern. This approach ensures that the overall style and integrity of the design are maintained

  • Fitting Sleeves for Appearance, Comfort, and Movement

In this class, we explore several body variations that impact the fit of sleeves, from arm size and shape to shoulder joint differences. Understanding these variations is key to achieving sleeves that not only look great but also fit comfortably and allow for full range of motion. We'll focus on Seam Method Alterations that target the sleeve itself, as well as adjustments that also involve the armscye (armhole).

Through demonstrations, we'll show how these alterations improve fit, maintain the intended style of the sleeve, ensure a smooth, flattering drape, and enhance both comfort and mobility. By the end of the class, you'll be confident in applying the Seam Method of Alteration to create sleeves that fit beautifully and allow for effortless movement, no matter your body shape.

  • Pants Fitting Nuances: Using the Seam Method and a Flexible Curve

Pants are often considered one of the most challenging garments to fit, but with the right approach, they can be tailored to perfection. In this class, we will explore a variety of alterations for different body shapes, helping you achieve a flattering fit regardless of your figure. We'll dive into the body variations that impact pant fit and demonstrate Seam Method Alterations to address some of the most common fitting challenges.

Whether you have a curvy or straight silhouette, the techniques we cover will help you achieve pants that are not only comfortable but also enhance your shape. By the end of the session, you'll have the knowledge and confidence to create pants that fit beautifully and look amazing.

  • Boot Camp: The Seam Method of Alteration

In this intensive workshop, you'll learn the essential steps of the Seam Method of pattern alteration, with a focus on creating alterations and making precise changes where they're needed most. You'll learn how to approach pattern alterations in the correct order, ensuring that modifications are made in the right areas without unintentionally affecting other parts of the pattern.

We'll start by practicing how to release seam allowances and create hinges, the foundations for applying the Seam Method. Next, we'll explore several common figure variations and demonstrate how to apply the Seam Method to tailor patterns for a perfect fit. You'll then have the opportunity to practice these techniques on half-scale patterns, honing your skills and gaining confidence in making alterations.

  • Pattern Alterations for Posture Issues

In this class, you'll see demonstrations of how to identify posture issues and alter patterns using the Seam Method to accommodate a variety of common posture issues, ensuring your garments fit and flatter your unique body shape. Whether you're dealing with forward shoulders, a rounded upper back, or a sway back, this class will teach you the techniques you need to create custom-fit patterns that work with your posture, not against it.

Forward Shoulder Joint: Learn how to adjust patterns to accommodate shoulders that slope forward. Understand how to move shoulder seams and adjust armhole placements for comfort and mobility.

Forward Head: Discover how to modify necklines and shoulder seams for those with a forward head posture. These adjustments will help improve the alignment and comfort of your garments.

Dowager Curve: Learn how to make pattern alterations for a pronounced curve in the upper back, near the base of the neck. You'll explore adjustments to back necklines, yokes, and darts for a better fit.

Rounded Upper Back: Explore techniques to adjust patterns for a rounded upper back, including adding extra room across the upper back and shoulders.

Sway Back: Learn how to address a sway back posture by making adjustments to the back waist, ensuring the fit is flattering without excess fabric pooling in the lower back area.

By the end of this class, you'll understand successful techniques to alter patterns to accommodate specific posture-related fit issues, resulting in garments that are not only comfortable but also enhance the wearers natural alignment. Whether you're sewing for yourself or others, these techniques will elevate your pattern fitting skills and ensure your garments look and feel their best.
